Registration is now open for Dog Day of Summer, returning to Mayfair Outdoor Pool on August 18.
Outdoor pool season has only just begun, but if your dog considers summer a competitive sport, now is the time to make plans.
Registration is now open for Dog Day of Summer, the City of Saskatoon’s annual end-of-season pool party for pups. The event returns to Mayfair Outdoor Pool on Tuesday, August 18, for dogs’ one and only pool party of the season before outdoor pools close for the summer.
Summer is just getting started, and Dog Day of Summer is already giving Saskatoon pet owners something to look forward to. With limited registration and plenty of eager pups ready to make a splash, this popular event is one to book early.
This year includes a dedicated Service and Therapy Dog swim from 11:00 to 11:55 a.m., followed by public swim sessions starting at 12:00 p.m. There’s also a small dog session at 7:00 p.m. for dogs under 40 cm (16 inches) at the shoulder and less than 9 kg (20 lbs).
All dogs attending must be registered online in advance at saskatoon.ca/dogdayofsummer. The Service and Therapy Dog session is limited to 20 dogs, and all other sessions are limited to 60 dogs each. Registration closes Sunday, August 16.
Before registering, owners should make sure their dog is accompanied by an adult, well-socialized, vaccinated and licensed in Saskatoon. If your dog still needs a license, it can be purchased online at saskatoon.ca/petlicense.
And because every great summer outing is even better with snacks, the Saskatoon SPCA will be on site with a fundraiser BBQ, with proceeds supporting SPCA initiatives.
So while the outdoor pools are just welcoming swimmers back for the season, this is your reminder to think ahead for the four-legged member of the family. Summer starts now — and for some very lucky dogs, it ends with a pool party.
