Every October, Canadians take part in Cyber Security Awareness Month (Cyber Month), a national campaign focused on helping people stay secure in the digital world.
The theme for #CyberMonth2026 is Your best defence is you. As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes a bigger part of everyday life, online threats are becoming increasingly convincing. From sophisticated phishing attempts to scams created with AI, it can be more difficult than ever to tell what is genuine and what is fraudulent.
Fortunately, protecting yourself online doesn't need to be overwhelming. During Cyber Month, consider taking these simple steps to improve your cyber security:
- Enhance your cyber security knowledge by completing the Discover Cyber Security course from the Government of Canada.
- Learn how to identify AI-generated content and stay informed about emerging cyber threats.
- Create strong, unique passwords for your accounts and use a password manager to keep them secure.
- Be cautious of phishing emails, texts, and messages, and report anything suspicious. Remember, the City of Saskatoon will never call, text or email a customer to request a credit card or social insurance number, password, or account information. Any personal or financial information shared with the City of Saskatoon is initiated by the customer or resident when requesting City services.
Even small changes can have a significant impact. This Cyber Month, take action to protect yourself, help others stay safe online and contribute to a more secure digital Canada and Saskatoon.
Your best defence is you.
